International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach told reporters at the IOC executive board meetings in Kuala Lumpur that he was confident that Rio De Janeiro will put together a great Olympic Games next year.
Specifically mentioning the Rio de Jeneiro Organizing Committee, Bach said that they were preparing well for the 44 test events that would take place at the venues prior to the start of the games.
“Great progress has been made at the Olympic Village and sports venues,” said Bach. The public transportation being delivered for the Games will be ready on time and leave a great legacy for the people of Rio de Janeiro.”
Bach will be heading to Rio on Aug. 5 in order to take part in a celebration marking the one-year countdown for the games.
Looking even farther forward, Bach was pleased with the progress that the organizing committee of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo is currently having.
“We see how they have really embraced Olympic Agenda 2020,” Bach said. “Fifty per cent of the venues will now be existing venues. Venues for 26 of the sports have already been approved.
The Tokyo 2020 organizing committee has cut costs dramatically in the decisions to use pre-existing venues.

I hope the celebratory events include a good long swim in the Guanabara Bay. Maybe he will find some souvenirs there to bring home with him.
Why does an organization headquartered in Switzerland working on an Olympic Games to be held in Brazil have to go all the way to Malaysia to have a board meeting?
