Gil Stovall Returns to Memphis Tiger Swimming as Head Age Group Coach

The Memphis Tiger Swimming (MTS) Board of Directors announced Gil Stovall has joined the staff as the program’s new head age group coach.

Gil is an internationally-accomplished athlete who swam competitively at MTS. He went on to swim collegiately at the University of Georgia and represented the United States in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

As a coach, Gil has spent the past three years leading the Jackson, TN affiliate of Germantown Swim Team, building that program into a strong competitive force in USA Swimming’s Southeastern Local Swimming Committee (LSC).

With Gil’s addition to the staff, MTS now has a head coach with Olympic coaching experience and a head age group coach with Olympic competition experience.

“Gil literally grew up in Memphis Tiger Swimming, and it’s great to welcome him back as a coach,” said MTS Head Coach Ben Davis. “With Gil, Assistant Head Coach Felipe Cortes and our other on-deck coaches, we have the depth and quality on our staff to provide the level of instruction needed to develop our swimmers at every level; from our beginners all the way to our nationally-competitive athletes.”

As head age group coach, Gil will oversee the development of the younger swim groups to refine their skills and prepare them for the next level of competitive swimming.
