TORONTO 2015 PAN AMERICAN GAMES

Dominique Bouchard is one of the top medal hopefuls for Canada at the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games.

Bouchard will be swimming both the 100 and 200m backstrokes where she’s in the running to take home gold. One of her toughest competitors will be her teammate and Canadian rival Hilary Caldwell.

Bouchard is currently ranked 14th globally in the 100m backstroke with the 1:00.20 that she swam at the Canadian Team Trials in April. Caldwell is currently ranked 24th with her 1:00.54 from trials.

Depending on results from the individual 100m backstroke, either Bouchard or Caldwell will be swimming in the finals for Canada’s 4x100m medley relay assuming they qualify. The other will take up the spot during prelims.

The 200m backstroke should give an idea of who is the premier backstroker heading into the final few days of competition. Bouchard is going in ranked ninth in the world in 2:08.99. Caldwell is ranked 11th with a 2:09.36.

The two have raced multiple times in this event, but international experience does go in the favour of Caldwell. Regardless, the two are the forefront of the pack in the women’s 200m backstroke and are set up with the opportunity to finish 1-2 in the event for team Canada.
