U.S. Team, Duet in 3rd Place After Prelims at Pan Am Games

TORONTO – The U.S. national synchronized swimming team and duet were both in third place Thursday after the first day of competition at the 2015 Pan Am Games.

 

The U.S. squad scored 82.6018 points in the team technical prelims at the CIBC Pan Am / Parapan Am Aquatics Centre. Host Canada was in first place with 87.9094 points, followed by Mexico at 85.6740.

 

The team free finals are Saturday at 3 p.m. ET. ESPN3 will have live coverage of the team and duet finals.

 

Team USA’s Mariya Koroleva (Concord, Calif.) and Alison Williams (Northridge, Calif.) were in third place after the duet tech prelim. The duo scored 82.5209 points, just behind Mexico’s Karem Achach and Nuria Diosdado at 84.4133. Canada’s Jacqueline Simoneauand Karine Thomas were in first place with 88.0881 points.

 

The duet free finals are Saturday at 11 a.m. ET.

 

The U.S. athletes swimming in the team competition are: Anita Alvarez (Kenmore, N.Y.); Claire Barton (Los Gatos, Calif.); Mary Killman (McKinney, Texas); Mariya Koroleva (Concord, Calif.); Sandra Ortellado (Walnut Creek, Calif.); Sarah Rodriguez (San Antonio, Texas); Karensa Tjoa (San Jose, Calif.); and Alison Williams (Northridge, Calif.)
