New mum Rebecca Adlington has successfully delivered her first child on the 8th of June and seems to be already planning an athletic career for her baby daughter whose name was revealed as Summer in HELLO magazine.
Talking on BBC radio 4, the four-time Olympic medalist said, “I’d love for her to go into the world of sport because I do think sport gives you so much more than medals and everything else” and has already admitted to buying her a swimming costume.
For Adlington herself, despite the increase in the number of competitive comebacks from the likes of Michael Phelps and Grant Hackett, she has no regrets in her retirement decision. She has also been seen to participate in the reality series ‘ I’m a celebrity get me out of here’ and commentate part time for the BBC.
Currently she is happy with her current role in the mentorship of young British athletes. Two notable members are commonwealth champions from last year in the form of Ross Murdoch and Adam Peaty.
However, Summer will come from a family of superstar talent with both of her Parents, Adlington and Harry Needs, being former swimmers. If she decides to follow in her parents’ footsteps the swimming community will have to keep on lookout for another potential British superstar.
