One of SwimMAC Team Elite’s training locations, the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center, has officially closed for renovations and is scheduled to remain closed through June 1st, 2016. SwimMAC recently hosted the Arena Pro Swim Charlotte at this facility.

“The renovation to MCAC will create a better competition atmosphere with more seating and storage, and a newly-renovated, state-of-the-art racing tank. The various clubs that rent the facility to host meets will no doubt have a better facility offering high-level competitions.” – David Marsh
Mecklenburg Aquatic Center opened in 1991 and since then, only minor improvements have been made. Some of the original equipment is still in working condition, however the dependability and lifespan of the equipment is unknown. The project was approved in the 2008 and is expected to cost $8.6 million.

During the renovation, SwimMAC Team Elite will be bouncing around to their other locations to continue training. Previously, Team Elite only trained at Mecklenburg on Tuesdays and Thursdays. During the renovations they will utilize the Charlotte Latin School, Queens University, Moss Creek, and their other SwimMAC locations.
In addition to SwimMAC Team Elite, several other area teams that rent the facility will be displaced during the year long renovation.
