Elizabeth Murray had a standout season for the UNC Asheville Bulldogs. As a freshman, she not only set a varsity record, but was named Most Improved by her teammates.
Background
Murray grew up in Kennesaw, Georgia with her family. She began swimming at age 11 for the Stingrays. Murray would swim for the team until she graduated high school.
Murray attended Kennesaw Mountain High School where she graduated with a 3.9 GPA. Swimming for KMHS, Murray had success racing at Georgia State Championships.
Freshman Year
Murray swam sprint freestyle and both the backstroke races for the Blue & White. She steadily improved her times throughout the season. Her successful regular season prepared Murray well for an outstanding championship meet. At the 2015 Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Conference Championship meet, Murray swam a lifetime best in the 100 yard backstroke, breaking the minute barrier for the first time. Murray also raced a lifetime best in the 200 backstroke, swimming eight seconds faster than her previous in-season best. Additionally, she dropped two full seconds in her 100 freestyle to earn another lifetime best. Murray would also be a member of the varsity record setting 200 freestyle relay team. This was Murray’s season highlight. Murray would finish the season with CCSA All-Academic Honors.
Sophomore Year
Murray continued to develop and train her sprint freestyle events for the Blue and White. She consistently raced the 50 and 100 freestyle in addition to the 100 and 200 backstroke. At the 2015 Georgia Tech Mid Season Invite, Murray raced season best times in the 200 backstroke, 100 backstroke and 50 freestyle. At the 2016 Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Championships, Murray got a season best time in the 100 backstroke. She also set a new season best time in the 200 backstroke, qualifying for finals in the event.
