Brittany Thomas

Brittany Thomas welcomed warmer winter weather when moving from Wisconsin to Asheville, North Carolina. Joining the Bulldogs at the start of the 2014/2015 season, Thomas firmly secured her spot on the distance crew.

Background
Thomas grew up in Mequon, Wisconsin with her parents and older sister. She put on her cap and goggles at age 7 for the Phoenixville Area Y Swim Team. She switched to the Schroeder Swim Team Y at age 9.

Swimming for the Homestead Highlanders, Thomas was a four year varsity letter winner. She led her team as captain her senior year. Furthermore, she received her high school’s swimming scholarship. Thomas excelled academically, making the honor role all four years of high school. She was also a member of Link Crew and the National Society for High School Honors. For her club team, she was a State Championships point earner.

Freshman Year
Thomas swam the 500 freestyle nine times throughout the season. She steadily improved her time and raced a personal best time at the 2015 Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Conference Championships, racing to the wall in a time of 5:11.22. She was extremely happy to make it back to finals in this event, scoring 22nd place points. Thomas dropped nearly 2 minutes in the 1650 freestyle throughout the season. At the 2015 CCSA Championships, Thomas raced a personal best time in the mile, touching the wall at 18:01.28. She would finish in 23rd place. Thomas finished the season with CCSA All-Academic Honors.

Sophomore Year

Thomas had surgery the summer before her sophomore season to repair a broken ankle. While recovery lasted the entire season, she was able to race close to her personal best times in many events. Thomas earned a season best time in the 1000 freestyle when racing against Brenau University. At the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Championships was only one second off of her lifetime best in the 500 freestyle. This gave Thomas confidence for her remaining races. On the last day of the meet Thomas earned a another season best time in the mile, clocking in at 18:15.27.
