Mieko Nagaoka, a 100-year-old woman in Japan, became the oldest person in history to complete a 1500 freestyle swim, breaking the Guinness World Record.
Nagaoka competed in a Masters meet in Ehime, Japan over the weekend, competing as the only swimmer in the 100-104 age group.
She took about 1 hour and 16 minutes to complete the short course meters race, according to The Guardian.
Nagaoka has only been swimming for the past two decades, and most recently finished a long course 1500 free at age 99. Her latest swim will be recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records.
She says she’d like to swim to age 105, where she would tie the record for the world’s oldest swimmer. That mantle currently belongs to Canadian Jaring Timmerman, who set a couple of Masters World Records in the 100-104 bracket a year ago, and passed away last November at 105.
