International Swimming Hall of Famer David Yudovin, a renowned open-water swimmer, died of a heart attack Saturday, the Cambrian reports.
Yudovin, 63, was among the first to ever swim across a large number of open water channels around the world. He was in his Cambria, California home Saturday training for his next swim, set to take place in the Maldives, when he suffered an apparent heart attack.
He was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame last September, and was well-known as a motivational speaker and a mentor to younger swimmers.
I will say, David lived his passion and openly shared it with positive energy and his soft spoken encouragement. Beth and he made a beautiful team that I personally enjoyed every time we shared time together at the West End of Catalina. Those “Aquarium” swims will always be a highlight.
