We caught up with Texas Longhorns Head Coach Eddie Reese, who gave us a little insight to his thoughts over Day 1 of the Men’s NCAA Championships.
Eddie expresses his interest to see two of his star swimmers, sophomore Jack Conger and freshman Joseph Schooling, once again go head-to-head in the 100 butterfly.
He also discusses what little things he thinks it will take to win this years championship, and his astonishment at Ryan Murphy’s new NCAA record in the 100 backstroke as the leadoff leg for Cal’s 400 medley relay.
Great man. Hilarious interview.
Interesting Ed story: after Jack and Joe went 44 high in the 100 fly he went over to Ian Crocker and said “Those two might be the best butterflyers we’ve ever had”
Understatement of the meet, “We swim butterfly real well.”
Eddie’s great as always … fantastic swimming from his men so far.
I have nothing but great things to say about him. I swam on a team in the old Southwest Conference before it disbanded. I was often the only swimmer from my team at national meets and Eddie was incredibly kind to me in those situations given the SWC connection. I will never forget that.
They should point a camera at Coach Reese instead of the scoreboard, it would be a much more interesting meet.
Agree 100%. He is far and away my favorite interviewee in swimming.
