Backstroke – The Chips and Salsa
The chips and salsa start off the meal, but if the salsa isn’t good then people start getting worried about the rest of the meal. In contrast, good chips and salsa can make the rest of the meal taste incredible.
Breaststroke – The Enchiladas
Everybody does Enchiladas differently, sometimes it works really well and sometimes it just doesn’t. A great enchilada dish can take the meal to the fastest 100 split in the 200 or just cause a cheesy landslide of sadness.
Butterfly – Someone Else’s last Taco
Max didn’t finish his last taco so you reached over and gave it a shot. Tacos can be kind of touchy though, if its too spicy in could ruin the whole meal. Don’t let that spicy taco jump off the plate too soon and send the your face into a bowl of ice cold water trying to forget what just took place.
Freestyle – Dessert Nachos
You’ve had the chips and salsa, the Enchiladas, and the Taco, now it’s time for dessert. Complete this magical meal from south of the border with the best Dessert Nachos you’ve got. Then again…if the chips were bad, the Enchiladas ended in a cheesy landslide of sadness, and the tacos were too spicy just pay the check and tip your waiter.

Always gotta make sure the chips and salsa are good.
This is strange and I’m not sure I can relate…
I really like this and the metaphor that you used. You should do more articles like this
I’m not giving up on Cal for this relay, but I say they better have Bootsma nosh on the chips and salsa, because if Garcia can’t get down to 59.0 or better it won’t matter much, as Osman would be out of last tacos to choose from while struggling through the massively thick cheese left behind, and even “tamales dulces” Franklin would be left out in the Mojave without a dessert.
*liquid, starving, proceeds to order takeout from El Cholo*
This is such a strange analogy…
Not cool. I was all set on roast beef and potatoes tonight at home, but that huge picture of chips and salsa looks so succulent, that I might have to do Mexican instead.
And FYI, “dessert,” if you’re referring to a sweet end to a meal. “Desert” if you’re referring to the Gobi, or Mojave. 🙂
For the record, my roast beef had an odd greenish tint to it, so…just finished my Chipotle dinner, including chips and salsa. 🙂
