NCSA Day 3 Prelims – Live Recap

NATIONAL CLUB SWIMMING ASSOCIATION JUNIOR NATIONALS

ORLANDO, Florida – Spring championships are here. And with it, comes the NCSA Spring Championship meet held this year from March 17-21 in Orlando, Florida.

The first night in session one we saw the Nation’s Capital men and the Aquajets women dominant the field – with multiple national age group records falling. While in yesterday morning’s session, Matt Hirshberger and Alexis Wenger both broke SCY national age group records. In the session tonight, however, the pool is switched over to long course which means one thing: a shot at a whole new set of records.

While Hirshberger dropped nearly four seconds off his personal best in the 400 free, no NAG records were broken last night.

Today’s prelims will feature (both men’s and women’s) 200 free, 50 breast, 400 IM, 50 fly, and 400 free relay.

Since there are two different pools for competition (men and women are separate), there have been a lot of delays will posting the women’s results. We’re doing everything we can to get the results to you as quick as possible.

Women’s 200 Free

Katherine Drabot touched out Stanzi Moseley to finish first in the prelims of the women’s 200 free. Drabot swam a 1:45.70 with Moseley coming in at 1:45.86. Megan Moroney was just behind Moseley, finishing at a 1:45.86.

Men’s 200 Free

James Murphy – the second place finisher in last night’s 400 meter free final – had the first seed going into prelims yet finished sixth with a time of 1:38.02. First place went to second seed Knox Auerbach, just hundredths of a second off of his personal best with a 1:37.00.

Women’s 50 Breast

Ingrid Wall touched out NAG record holder Alexis Wenger, :28.03 to :28.28. Everyone in the top seven swam under :29.00 so it should make for a quick final tonight!

Men’s 50 Breast

Carson Vissering – the champion of last night’s 100 meter breast – finished first by nearly a third of a second in this morning’s 50 breast prelims with a time of :25.04. Second and third places went to Ian Finnerty and Matthew Salerno with times of :25.36 and :25.38, respectively.

Emily Barksdale won the prelims 4-IM – taking her 100 fly out in a :57 in order to finish at a 4:12.86. Margaret Aroesty and Katherine Drabot finished second and third, with times of 4:13.59 and 4:13.75, respectively.

Andrew Seliskar nearly broke :50 seconds on his 100 fly leg of the 400 IM, bringing him to the finish at 3:43.44. Alex Lebed, a Germantown Academy swimmer competing unattached in this meet, touched second at 3:48.34

Women’s 50 Fly

Lauren Case – the 16 year old seeded first in the 100 fly with a :52 – finished third in this morning’s 50 fly prelims by a fraction of a second. First place went to Alex Preiss, who swam a :24.46, then second to Caroline McTaggart at a :24.53. Case was third to McTaggart by just :00.01.

With a :48 anchor split from Zoe Avestruz, the Minnesota Aquajets took first by nearly three seconds in the women’s 4-free relay.

Men’s 400 Free Relay

The Nation’s Capital relay featured a :43.19 lead-off swim from Andrew Seliskar to give NCAP a 2:56.98 win. Grant Goddard, Adrian Lin, and James Jones were also on the relay. Machine came in second place followed by the Iowa Flyers.
