Above, watch as North Oldam High School junior Grace Oglesby swims a 51.75 in the 100 yard fly, which was just a hair short of the 51.70 done by Wisconsinite Beata Nelson as the National Public (and overall) High School Record in the event done last November.
Oglesby, who is a junior, swam a 53.67 at thvide Kentucky High School State Championship meet in the event, and a year later she had dropped almost two full seconds off of her time to mark the second-fastest 100 fly in high school history.
Oglesby does her club training with Cardinal Aquatics. This swim broke her own State Record of 52.14 done in prelims on Friday.
A full recap of the Kentucky State Championship meet will follow.
Congrats to Miss Oglesby.
I didn’t see that happen. And for good reason, I’ve never heard of her before today.
WOW! 51.74! That’s an amazing improvement!
That’s a great work by the coaches too.
I see she was in 57.00 in November, in 53.51 in December, in 52.72 at Region championships 2 weeks ago and now the bang with that stunning performance at State championships.
She probably has a big 200 fly in stores too in my opinion because she was in 1.57 in mid January, likely unrested. Something around 1.53/1.54 is possible.
A girl to watch in the future, no doubt about that.
Wow. Amazing!
Where’s BOBO at? Write her name down everyone!
?
Funny, I’m an Mid Atlantic Swimmer myself and I’ve never heard of her until now.
Maybe if she swam a little faster, we would have gotten to see her finish…
Much agree, The state of Kentucky has some talented flyers. Don’t forget Elaine Breeden and Kelsey Floyd were from there.
I’d never heard of Grace before, but dang, I sure have now!! Congrats to Grace, and by the way, what is it about Kentucky and fast butterfliers? Meagher, Komisarz, Donohue, Worral, now Oglesby. And I think I’m forgetting some too. Must be some great coaches and swim parents there. The video got cut off before the end of the race, but she had great forma and walls and it looked like the 2nd place finisher was in the 53 range too. Things are just looking better and better and better for USA women’s fly.
Worrell is from Jersey/Mid-Atlantic Swimming…. but your point still holds. She’s in Kentucky now 😉
You left out 2008 Olympian Elaine Breeden!
I had the chance to watch it and it was one of the most amazing swims I’ve ever seen. Also, watch out for her sister Lilly she’s pretty fast too.
