Both the Stillwater girls and Altus boys broke state relay records and won multiple relays en route to the Oklahoma high school class 5A (small schools) state titles.
Girls Meet
Stillwater High School swept the relays and broke the only two state records of the meet to take the team title.
The first record came in the first event, where Dewi Blose, Brooke Njaa, Alexx Thomas and Kayla Dunn combined to go 1:57.71, sneaking under the 5-year-old 5A record by just a tenth.
In the 200 free relay, Savanna Barth, Thomas, Isabelle Smith and Njaa went 1:43.71, this time smashing the state record by almost three seconds. Second-place Heritage Hall as also under the old record in 1:44.84, led by big-time leadoff leg Avery Niemann.
Barth and Thomas went on to win individual events for Stillwater. Barth topped the 500 free, going 5:26.42, while Thomas paced the 100 fly in 1:01.66, a tight touchout over Heritage Hall’s Milly Bock.
Stillwater also won the 400 free relay with the combination of Smith, Barth, Blose and Dunn in 3:51.48.
Heritage Hall wound up second in the team points, getting two individual wins from Niemann. The freestyler paced the 200 free (1:54.06) by a landslide early in the meet, and also went 53.18 to win the 100 free.
Eisenhower’s Devon Speed also doubled up on individual wins. The aptly-named Speed won the 200 IM (2:12.85) and the 100 back (58.73), both by solid margins.

Boys Meet
The boys of Altus powered away with the team title thanks to four wins and a state record from Daniel Brown.
The final event of Brown’s 4-for-4 night brought the class 5A record. That came in the 200 free relay, where Brown anchored in 21.50 as Walker Sacco, Konner Croft, Matthew Aguilar and Brown went 1:31.03, sneaking under the old record they set in prelims by just .03.
Brown also won the 50 free (21.36) and 100 free (47.93) individually, plus anchored the winning 200 medley relay with Aguilar, Croft and Jacob Oden. That team went 1:41.74, just about seven tenths off the state record.
Oden also won an event for Altus, going 54.50 in the 100 fly to win by a second.
The other state record of the night went to Bishop Kelley’s Patrick Callan in the 500 free. Callan doubled up on the day, but his best swim was the 500 free, where his 4:38.23 got under the old state record by over two seconds.
Callan also won the 200 free in 1:41.78.
Also winning twice was Piedmont’s Conner St. John, who took the 200 IM (1:58.22) and 100 breast (59.83).
