Janardan Burns
Janardan Burns is a sophomore freestyle specialist at the University of California, Berkeley. Originally from Hermosa Beach, Calif. Burns attended high school at Aliso Niguel in Aliso Viejo, Calif. Burns began swimming at six years old, and excelled quickly in the pool. At age 14 he drew attention of college recruiters when he was named Swimming World Magazine’s Age Group Swimmer of the Month. Although Burns does specialize in mid-to-distance freestyle he is also skilled in Open Water Swimming. Coming from Mission Viejo Nadadores, the club drew upon his Open Water skills, and he was named to the U.S. National Team. In order to train for such long swimming in addition to his 1500 and 1,650 freestyle events, Burns claims that he trains 15,000m per day.

In his freshman season at Cal, Burns finished fourth in the 1,650 at the Pac 12 Championships.
International Competition
Burns is a current member of the U.S. National Team in the 1500m freestyle. He was also a member of the 2012-2013 U.S. National Junior Team in the 10k Open Water event and even earned a bronze medal in the 2012 Junior Pan Pacs in the 10k. At the same event he swam in the pool competing in 100, 200, 400, and 1500m freestyles.
At the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials Burns touched 18th in the 1500m freestyle and 23rd in the 400m freestyle.
