Washington State Women Top Utah

In their final home meet of the season, the Washington State Cougars captured their sixth straight win, outscoring Utah 156.5 to 105.5 on Friday. This was the first time the Cougars defeated the Utes in WSU’s program history.

The Cougars kicked off the meet with a win in the 200 Medley Relay. WSU’s A team touched first (1:43.90) ahead of Utah’s A team (1:44.54) and the Cougar B team (1:45.39).

Washington State sophomores Kendra Griffin (10:25.69) and Emma Elhoff (10:34.84) captured a 1-2 finish in the 1000 Free ahead of Ute teammates Selin Ozturk (10:37.51) and Kat Wickham (10:45.86).

WSU freshman Rachel Thompson took the 200 Free in 1:52.59 ahead of Utah freshman Dorien Butter (1:53.19). Cougar teammates Elise Locke (1:54.66) and Haley Anderson (1:56.06) touched third and fourth, respectively.

Ute freshman Megan Kawaguchi claimed the top spot in the 100 Back (56.21) ahead of a 2-3 Washington State finish by junior Loree Olson (56.62) and Ali Mand (57.03). Utah freshman Shayla Archer followed up for fourth in 57.93.

The Utes continued their winning streak with a first-place finish in the 100 Breast by sophomore Stina Colleou (1:04.41). Washington State junior teammates Presley Wetterstrom (1:05.13) and Frederikke Hall (1:05.14) finished second and third with just one one-hundredth of a second between them. Utah freshman Jenna Marsh took fourth in 1:07.28.

Utah teammates Petra Soininen (2:02.98) and Madelynn Meisel (2:04.45) completed a 1-2 sweep in the 200 Fly ahead of Washington State’s Kendra Griffin (2:05.80) and Anna Brolin (2:10.13).

Ute senior Madeline Jamora (23.55) took home a win in the 50 Free ahead of a close 2-3-4 Cougar finish by teammates Hannah Bruggman (23.72), Nicole Proulx (23.82) and Haley Rose Love (23.92).

Washington State changed the momentum with a 1-2 sweep in the 100 Free by Nicole Proulx (51.95) and Hannah Bruggman (52.26). Utah freshman Dorian Butter followed up for third just three one-hundredths of a second behind in 52.29.

In the 200 Back, Washington State junior Loree Olson touched first in 2:02.30 ahead of a tie between Utah’s Megan Kawaguchi and Shaya Schaedler (2:05.00). Utah’s Hailey Pabst took fourth in 2:06.92.

Washington State junior Presley Wetterstrom claimed a win for the Cougars in the 200 Breast (2:16.31) in a tight race to finish ahead of Utah sophomore Stina Colleou (2:16.59). WSU’s Frederikke Hall was third in 2:21.01.

Utah freshman Madelynn Meisel touched first in the 500 Free (4:58.36) ahead of a 2-3-4 Washington State finish by teammates Rachel Thompson (5:04.67), Elise Locke (5:08.12) and Kendra Griffin (5:08.26).

Cougar freshman Anna Brolin claimed a win for Washington State in the 100 Fly (55.50) ahead of Ute junior Petra Soininen (56.01). Brolin‘s teammate Haley Rose Love followed up for third in 56.66.

Washington State’s Loree Olson took her second event win of the meet in the 200 IM (2:08.42) ahead of Utah’s Kylie Boyce (2:10.54). Cougar junior Presley Wetterstrom touched third just three tenths of a second behind in 2:10.83.

The 400 Free relay came down to the wire, with the Cougar A team touching first (3:27.34) by just eight one-hundredths of a second to beat out the Utah A team (3:27.42).
