Former University of Northern Iowa swimmer Jody Petersen is undergoing three surgeries, and some of her supporters shared with SwimSwam a way others can help her out.
Petersen is a recent graduate of UNI and was a backstroker/freestyler for the Missouri Valley Conference program. But Petersen suffers from ulcerative colitis, a disease of the colon and large intestine. Despite finishing her student teaching in elementary education, Petersen is now unable to work, dealing with complications from a surgery with several more surgeries still to come before she is back on her feet for good.
Petersen’s family has set up a GoFundMe campaign for anyone interested in helping Jody out with her medical bills or other expenses until she is able to work again. You can find the campaign by following this link.
I was lucky enough to Coach Jody as an Age Grouper before her family moved to Iowa. What a wonderful kid! It has been a privilege to watch her become such strong woman. Jody your St Charles Swim Team Family has you in our thoughts.
