CLEVELAND – Miami University senior swimmer Joe Baumgartner was named the Mid-American Conference Male Swimmer of the Week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon. This is the second MAC weekly award he has received this season, also capturing the honor in early December following the Miami Invitational.
Baumgartner turned in three-individual first-place finishes and also was part of the first-place 200-yard freestyle relay in a 168-132 loss to Buffalo on Jan. 16. In his first event of the day, the 200-yard freestyle, he clocked a time of 1:41.05 to finish first. Baumgartner earned another first-place finish in the 50 freestyle in a time of 20.49. In his last individual race of the meet, the 100-yard freestyle, he touched the wall at an impressive 45.91, almost six-tenths faster than the nearest Buffalo competitor.
Baumgartner also swam the final leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay. He outswam the second-place Buffalo swimmer by .07 seconds to a final team time of 1:23.62.
Miami is off until taking on Eastern Michigan in Ypsilanti, Mich., on Saturday, Jan. 31.
