St. Bonaventure Swimming and Diving top Binghamton 147.5-88.5

MEN

The St. Bonaventure Men’s Swimming and Diving team returned to action Saturday afternoon after a month long training break. Despite the layover, they picked up right where they left off cruising to a 147.5-88.5 victory over the Binghamton Bearcats.

St. Bonaventure was paced by double winner Michael Pilyugin. The junior won both the 200-yd Freestyle (1:46.61), and the 100-yd Freestyle (47.07). Other event winners for the Bonnies were Vatzlav Lets in the 1,000-yd Fresstyle finishing in a time of 9:57.02. Freshman Michael white coninued his successful freshman campaign winning the 400-yd I.M. in a time of 4:10.74.

In the 200-yd Freestyle senior Ripley Danner placed first swimming a time of 1:55.39. In the 200-yd Backstroke junior Matt Rochna touched the wall first in a time of 1:56.09. The last St. Bonaventure individual victory cam curtesy of freshman Ben Galinski. Swimming in lane won he captured the 500-yd Freestyle title in a time of 4:51.66.

When all was said and done the Bonnies dominated. They capturing 9 event titles out of the 13 event format, which included two relay victories.

Next Up: St. Bonaventure will remain at home for their final home meet of the season next Saturday afternoon Jan. 24th. The start is currently slated for 1:00 P.M. Prior to the start of the meet, St. Bonaventure will honor the 2015 senior class.

WOMEN

The St. Bonaventure Women’s Swimming and Diving team returned to action Saturday afternoon fresh off their two week training trip to Florida. The Bonnies continue to swim well, but fell just short, dropping a close meet 121-116 to Binghamton.

Despite the Loss St. Bonaventure recorded some impressive perfomances on the afternoon. Sophomore Tanja Kirmse continued her impressive season capturing three individual titles on the day. She won both the 1,000-yd Freestyle (10:37.69) and the 500-yd Freestyle (5:11.53). She also captured the 200-yd Butterfly title with a time of 2:09.26.

Other events winners for the Bonnies were Rachel Bull in the 200-yd Freestyle (1:59.24) and Adelyn Graf in the 200-yd Backstroke (2:10.12). The last St. Bonaventure win came in the 200-yd Freestyle relay, the team of Meaghan McCann, Lex Scanlan, Rachel Bantelman and Rachel Bull finished with a winning time of 1:41.18.

Not to be lost in the results was the Bonnies performance in the 500-yd Freestyle. St. Bonaventure captured the top three finishers in the event. Following Kirmses’ first place finish was Lauren Caldwell in second (5:20.15) followed closely by Michaela Ryan (5:22.32)
