Since being suspended almost a year ago, Georgia head swimming & diving coach Jack Bauerle has been largely silent publicly about the accusations.
On Tuesday, after the NCAA announced the finding of its investigation and the ruling on Bauerle’s punishment, Bauerle released a statement for the first time since an indefinite suspension was levied in April.
“The past year has been very difficult, and I’m glad the NCAA process is over,” said Bauerle. “I accept the Committee’s decision and penalties. I am relieved the penalties are directed at me and not the swimming and diving program or our student-athletes, as they should not be punished for my mistake.”
“I want to thank the University for letting me return to lead the University’s swimming and diving program. I love this University and my student-athletes, past and present, and I look forward to getting back to work with our swimmers and divers as soon as I possibly can.”
While the NCAA gave its stamp of approval for Bauerle to return to on-deck duties after three more meets, there was still the questions of whether or not the Georgia Athletics Department would welcome him back, or if he would choose to come back.
Between Bauerle’s statement and those of Athletic Director Greg McGarity, it seems clear that both intend to move forward with Bauerle as the head coach of the Georgia swimming & diving program.
Great Coach, even better man!
I’m glad to hear Jack will be back. Great coach and a good man.
