The Lehigh men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams defeated Lafayette on Friday, a special night at Lehman College, the night before the 150th meeting of the Lehigh and Lafayette football teams. The Lehigh squads dominated the Leopards of Lafayette. The women outswam Lafayette by a score of 211.5 to 81.5, improving their record to 4-2. The men defeated Lafayette handedly as well by a score of 191 to 107, improving their overall record to an even 3-3.
On the women’s side, the Mountain Hawks won every single event except for one. Lehigh started off the meet on a high note, winning the 400 medley relay in 3:50.06. Winning performances from sophomore Cora Summerfield in the 1000 free (10:27.18) and freshman Julianne Koch in the 200 free (1:48.44) kept the momentum going. Senior Alissa Leung dominated in the 100 back (56.90) and the 200 back (2:03.03), while junior Melissa Feeney won the 100 breaststroke (1:04.76) and 200 breaststroke (2:19.59). Freshman Sydeney Bornstein added to the success, winning the 200 butterfly (2:02.63), along with sophomore Kaitlyn Ruffing winning the 50 free (23.41) and 100 free (50.57). Junior Courtney Patterson held strong throughout the meet, winning the 500 free (4:59.69) and 200 IM (2:07.38).
The Lehigh women also closed out the meet by winning the 400 free relay in 3:22.77.
On the men’s side, the Mountain Hawks had winning performances from sophomore Jacob Moyar in the 1000 free (9:27.51), the 200 butterfly (1:49.10) and the 500 free (4:38.52). Sophomore Justin White added to the success with wins in the 200 free (1:40.60) and the 100 free (45.41). Sophomore Jamal Willis won the 50 free (20.52), freshman Dean Shafritz won the 200 back (1:53.99) and senior Jake Greene won the 200 IM (1:53.25), leading Lehigh to victory.
The Lehigh men closed out the meet by also winning the 400 free relay in 3:03.77.
Freshman diver Emily Speakman added to Lehigh’s success, finishing in second place in the three meter dive and third place in the one meter dive. Senior diver Dan Bateman finished the day in second place in the three meter dive and also took home a first place finish in the one meter dive.
The Mountain Hawks compete again on December 4 at U.S. Nationals in Greensboro N.C.
