Drury Men, Women Start 2014-2015 Season on Top of CSCAA Division II Poll

Editor’s Note: SwimSwam is not a voting party of the CSCAA Rankings, and the poll results are posted here as a courtesy.

Ten-time defending NCAA Division II men’s champions Drury debuts the season at the top of the CSCAA coaches’ dual-meet poll, which will come as no surprise to DII followers. The Queens men, meanwhile, have jumped up to the #2 position after a 5th-place finish at last year’s NCAA Championship meet. The honor is an earned one after beating Division I opponents Gardner-Webb and #5 Wingate already early this season.

Florida Southern checks in at number three after impressive performances against Division I opponents, including Florida State, in a tough schedule early this season.

The defending NCAA Champion Drury women also debut at #1, with the same top two as the men’s poll. While there’s no surprises at the top, the most significant slide, as compared to last year’s NCAA Championship meet, is that of the Wayne State women. They finished 2nd in the country last season, but are only tied for 17th in the first poll this year. In their only scored meet so far, they fell 167-126 to Division I opponents Oakland University, but despite a respectable showing at that meet, the Warriors fell due to massive graduations including defending NCAA 50 free champion Ana Azambuja.

Full poll release below.

The College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Team Rankings are voted on by a committee of CSCAA member coaches. This is the first of four DII Rankings to be released during the 2014-15 Season

The CSCAA Poll Committee will produce in-season rankings of the 25 best performing NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving teams in rank order at the time of each poll.  The poll is not designed to predict the results of the NCAA Championship, but rather which teams would win head-to-head against other teams in the country.

Will SwimSwam be doing their own DII rankings? (please)

Agreed

I agree. West Chester women are 11 and they got beet convincingly by Bloom. It doesn’t look the committee puts any thought into the ranking. They just vote for whoever they assume should be there.

NONA

Limestone smoked #19Catawba in a dual meet already this year (then again at an invite) yet received no votes? Curious on the methodology behind that!
