Cal Poly Rolls Past Pepperdine

The Mustang women charged to a 160-120 win over the Pepperdine Waves at home, taking 13 of the 14 swim events. Multiple event sweeps and a strong underclassman performance helped the Mustangs take home their first dual meet win of the season.

The Cal Poly A (1:47.43) and B (1:51.47) teams finished first and second in the 200 Medley Relay for a Mustang sweep in the first event of the meet. Pepperdine’s A team followed up for third in 1:51.99.

Mustang junior Nicole Antoniuk led a 1-2-3-4 Cal Poly sweep in the 1000 Free (10:43.56), just ahead of sophomore teammate Karoline Eckhart  (10:45.01). Cal Poly sophomore Jessi Modlich was third (10:56.71) and freshman Emily Jacobs was fourth with her exhibition swim of 11:09.62.

The freshman pair of Bonnie Diamond (1:55.90) and Sophia Kuvan (1:56.01) went 1-2 to lead another 1-2-3-4 Mustang sweep in the 200 Free. Junior Taylor Guy (1:57.47) and freshman Sammi Campbell (1:58.90) followed up for third and fourth, respectively.

Mustang freshman and double event winner Caitlin Cox (59.60) and freshman Breanna Tran (1:00.01) continued the winning streak for Cal Poly in the 100 Back with a 1-2 sweep. Pepperdine freshman Sabrina Altman took third in 1:01.42.

Cal Poly freshman Sage Speak won her first of three events in the 100 Breast (1:06.10) as part of another 1-2-3-4 Mustang sweep. Freshman teammate Marissa Robertson was second in 1:07.40 ahead of Mustang junior Allison de Peralta (1:08.65) and sophomore Sara Dafoe (1:11.22).

In the 200 Fly, junior Belen Enguidanos took the win for Cal Poly (2:05.89) ahead of Mustang freshman Shaelin Morefield (2:06.20) to continue the Cal Poly sweeps. Pepperdine junior Jessica Mosbaugh followed up for third in 2:09.08.

A double event winner of the meet for Cal Poly was sophomore Daniella Orlandi, who got her first win in the 50 Free (24.77). Mustang freshman Elise Goetzl followed up in 24.88 for second, and sophomore Mustang Emma Henderson was third (24.90).

Orlandi also won the 100 Fly (58.49) ahead of Pepperdine junior Nicolette Barreiro (1:00.65) and her teammate Jessica Mosbaugh (1:01.07).

Pepperdine junior Allison Naazs won The Wave’s only event of the meet in the 100 Free (54.57). Cal Poly sophomore Karoline Eckhart touched in a tie (54.72)  with her freshman teammate Alex La Freniere.

Mustang freshman Caitlin Cox‘s second win came in the 200 Back–the start of exhibition swims for Cal Poly. Pepperdine freshman Sabrina Altman was officially second (2:22.10) and her teammate Abby Crawford was third (2:24.20).

Mustang freshman Sage Speak picked up another win in the 200 Breast (2:20.91) ahead of Pepperdine junior Jessica Mosbaugh (2:22.31) and Pepperdine freshman Lauren Stigers (2:34.42).

Another double event winner, freshman Bonnie Diamond, took her second win in the 500 Free (5:06.11). Pepperdine’s Laura Graziano was second in 5:31.89 and her teammate Heather Connelly was third (5:33.99). 

Speak took her third win of the meet in the 400 IM (3:55.36), ten seconds ahead of second-place Pepperdine sophomore Kelly Presper (4:05.43).
