Houston Picks Up Scottsdale Aquatic Club’s Julie Gibson

Julie Gibson of Scottsdale Aquatic and Pinnacle High School has committed to swim for the Houston Cougars next year.

Gibson’s best 50 freestyle, 24.39, would have placed her 26th at the AAC conference meet and fifth fastest on the team last year. Her best 100 freestyle, 53.65, would put her at a similar place in the conference but would not have made last season’s top six for the Cougars. However, three of the top freestylers from last year have graduated, and Gibson has only gotten faster as she has gotten older.

She took off more than a second from he fastest time in the 50 freestyle from 16 years old to 17 years old, and will likely have more development over this season before joining the Cougars in 2015. She has also competed at Junior Nationals.

Gibson’s other times include:

1:56.98 in the 200 yard free

1:02.49 in the 100 yard back

2:16.80 in the 200 yard back

27.30 in the 50 meter free

59.22 in the 100 meter free

2:09.83 in the 200 meter free

1:14.03 in the 100 meter back.
