District 10
District 10 saw two dominant teams take titles. Martin County won 8 of 12 girls races to take that overall title, while Jensen Beach dominated the boys meet.
GIRLS
Team scores:
- Martin County 579
- Jensen Beach 361
- South Fork 314
- Okeechobee 240
- Forest Hill 174
Martin County was dominant on the girls side, winning 8 of 12 events en route to the team trophy, including all three relays.
Hannah Burdge won all four of her events for Martin County taking the 200 free and 100 free individually, plus putting up key legs on the winning 200 medley and 200 free relays. Burdge’s double to open the meet, with the 200 medley relay and 200 free back-to-back, was particularly impressive.
Antonella Ambrosini, who was second to Burdge in the 200 free, also won the 500 for Martin County. And Sarah Lacusky, second to Burdge in the 100 free, went on to win the 100 breast for the team.
Second-place Jensen Beach got two wins from Rachel Tompkins, who paced the 100 back and 200 IM easily.
BOYS
Team scores:
- Jensen Beach 462
- Martin County 399
- South Fork 290
- Olympic Heights 269
- Forest Hill 210
For the boys, though, it was Jensen Beach that ran away with things. Al Madden won the 50 free and 100 breaststroke, plus held down the key breaststroke leg of the team’s winning 200 medley relay.
Willy Malone was also on that medley, and he went on to win twice individually. First, he won the 100 free in 51.02. Then in the 100 back, he topped teammate and 200 IM winner Brian Barrall in a 1-2 finish for Jensen Beach.
District 11
Fort Lauderdale’s Morgan Meadows won four times to lead her team to a runaway win, while their male counterparts also won on big performances from the Marcoux brothers.
GIRLS
Team scores:
- Fort Lauderdale 606
- Pembroke Pines Charter 524
- Northeast 281
- Hollywood Hills 216
- Dillard 37
Fort Lauderdale topped Pines Charter by about 80 points, getting 4 wins from Morgan Meadows. The sophomore won the 200 and 100 frees, plus helped her squads win the 200 and 400 free relays late in the meet to seal the win.
District 11 was a true show of youth, with multiple freshmen winning events. Pines Charter freshman Kelley Heron won the 200 IM and 100 backstroke by giant margins, while also helping Pines steal the 200 medley relay from Fort Lauderdale. Another victorious freshman was Hollywood Hills’ Racine Ross, who won the 100 fly and finished 3rd in the 50 free.
BOYS
Team scores:
- Fort Lauderdale 627
- Pembroke Pines Charter 579
- Northeast 208
- Hollywood Hills 164
- Stranahan 38
Though Pines Charter went on an early run, winning the first three races, Fort Lauderdale was too good in the sprint freestyles to lose the meet.
Brothers Raphael and Phillipe Marcoux came up huge, going 1-2 in the 100 free, and each winning a separate event. Raphael won that 100 in 47.03, and he and his brother (47.65) were the only guys under 49 seconds. Raphael also took the 50 free, while Phillipe returned later to take the 100 back.
Pines Charter started hot with a win in the 200 medley relay, and two swimmers from that relay went on to win individually. In the very next event, relay anchor Ryan Capote went 1:49.13 to win the 200 free. And then leadoff man Juan Lucas won the 200 IM in the next men’s race. That was enough to put Pines Charter firmly second, over 300 points ahead of the rest of the pack.
District 12
The girls of the Terra Institute got just one individual win, but rode a wave of points from their depth to win the district 12 girls title. Meanwhile Belen Jesuit went on a tear through the middle of the meet to power away with the boys trophy.
GIRLS
Team scores:
- Terra Institute 478.5
- Mater Academy 443
- Mourning 300
- American 235
- Goleman 111.5
The Terra Institute out of Miami took the women’s title on depth, winning just two events. Julia Talamo was the lone individual champ for the team, taking the 100 fly in 1:02.08. In that race, she barely managed to get her hand on the wall before 50 free champ Omaira German of American.
Terra Institute also won the 200 free relay, with Talamo leading off.
Mater made a late run, sweeping the top three spots in the 100 back and then winning the 400 free relay two events later. But it wasn’t enough to overcome Terra, which won by about 35.
BOYS
Team scores:
- Belen Jesuit 455
- Terra Institute 382
- Mater Academy 322
- Mourning 320
- Goleman 174
Mater Academy went on an early run, taking the first two individual races. Jordan Colon won the 200 free and Julio Horrego the 200 IM.
But Belen Jesuit fired back, winning 5 in a row through the middle of the meet. That run was bookended by wins from Alejandro Carriazo, who crushed the field in the 100 fly and 100 back. In between were wins in the 100 free (Christian Fowler), 500 free (Miguel Basalo) and 200 free relay.
That was enough to propel Belen Jesuit to the team title. Despite winning the 400 free relay to close the meet, Mater fell to third, with the Terra Institute sneaking up to take runner-up honors.
