The Pro Duel Meet 1 announced earlier today that they would be adding a few South Americans to the lineup, and now they’ve added another huge headliner to the event: George Bovell.
The 28-year old Trinidadian made his biggest impact on the National scene with a 200 IM bronze medal at the 2004 Olympics, but later in his career has remade himself as a pure sprinter. His most recent success is a 7th-place finish in the 50 free at the 2011 World Championships in 22.04.
Bovell, an Auburn alum, adds to a loaded sprint field at this meet that will include Jason Dunford, Bryan Lundquist, Darian Townsend, and Nick Brunelli.
This is a great sign for his health after suffering a terrible car accident in mid-August. He was back in the pool for his first, light swim on September 15th, and by the end of September he was back to full training, including intense weight-lifting, ocean swims, and cross-training in the form of two-hour basketball games. The fact that he’s participating in full-contact sports again indicates that he’s 100% again (or pretty close to it), so expect a full-strength Bovell ready for this meet in November.
