West Virginia Swim and Dive to dual Villanova

Following a home dual meet against Penn State on Thursday night, the West Virginia University swimming and diving teams travel to Villanova for a road dual meet on Saturday, Oct. 25, at noon.

“We will swim off the Penn State meet this morning and get ready for our trip out to Villanova,” said coach Vic Riggs. “(Villanova coach) Rick Simpson’s team is always prepared. He’s got a very solid women’s program, and we will treat this as an opportunity to see what we can do off of some success against Penn State.”

The Mountaineers and Wildcats will meet in the pool for first time since the 2012-13 season when the WVU men and women earned wins over Villanova.

West Virginia fell at home to Penn State on Thursday night, despite several strong individual performances. Emma Skelley swept the women’s 500 free (4:58.49) and 1,000 free (10:05.49) events, while diver Haily VandePoel won the 1- and 3-meter boards for the second straight competition.

“We will have to handle some different challenges with this being our second meet in three days,” Riggs said. “How we respond to those challenges will be very telling moving forward in our season.”

On the men’s side Thursday, Nate Carr took first in the 400 IM (3:59.48) and the 200 breast (2:04.94), while Andrew Marsh claimed the victory in the 100 free (45.61).
