Sprinter Ali Powell from Santa Barbara Verbally Commits to the Arizona Wildcats

Ali Powell, a national-level sprinter from Santa Barbara Swim Club, has made a verbal commitment to the University of Arizona for the 2015-16 season.

“It was the perfect fit for me. I loved the coaches and the team –everyone there! I am excited to be part of this great group of girls. I can’t wait to be a Wildcat!”

Powell is a senior at Anacapa School in Santa Barbara. She competed this past summer at Junior Nationals in Irvine, and her top times are:

50y free: 23.54
50m free: 26.57
100y free: 51.90
100m free: 58.53
100y fly: 59.34
100m fly: 1:06.93

Powell is right to be excited about the next four years. She will be part of a class that includes commits from: Annie Ochitwa, Ashley Sutherland, Daniela Georges, Emma McCarthy, Katrina Konopka, Sam Senczyszyn, Sarah Shimomura, and Taylor Garcia.

She should be a great asset to the Wildcats, both in individual events and on relays. Arizona in the Rick DeMont era is once again a destination for top-level talent. It will be fun to watch the Wildcats over the next several years.
