Distance freestyler Sam Magnan has verbally committed to the Virginia Cavaliers.
His yards bests are 4:25.05/9:09.72/15:14.58 in the 500/1000/1650 yard freestyles, all of which will play very well in the ACC. His best time already would have ranked him in the top 10 in the ACC last season, and the 500 would’ve been close to scoring points as well in the new C-Final-scoring format that the conference is using.
His results in the 200 free aren’t quite to that level yet, but after a fantastic junior season that included the 6 best times of his career in the 200 yard free, he’s headed in the right direction. In total, he dropped over three seconds in the 200 free last season.
As an even bigger star in long course, he placed 4th in the 800 free at this summer’s Junior Nationals in 8:06.04, missing 3rd-place by .01 seconds, and was the Junior National Champion in the 1500 meter free in 15:28.58.
Magnan swims for the Parkland Aquatic Club and Freedom High School in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
Magnan was the runner-up in the 500 free at the Pennsylvania AAA High School State Championship meet in 2014, and will be the highest-returning finisher from that event by 7 seconds.
Someone on Pierce’s club team thinks they’re being funny, I’m guessing.
Looks like UVA is starting to turn it around in the recruiting dept. Too bad they wont beat Virginia Tech, especially with super special star Harrison Pierce being a beast and doing what he does day in and day out. He puts the team on his back until he falls over and can’t get back up because hes so big.
I don’t understand why you have to bag on someone’s commit to a school? They would definitely love to see some feed back on his decision, but instead you do this?? Shame….
Parkland and Freedom HS are in the Allentown/Bethlehem area, closer to Philadelphia not Pittsburgh.
Thanks for the correction pa swimmer – I came across Freedom AREA High School, my mistake!
