Notre Dame Picks up Verbal from Michigan Breaststroker/IMer Jack Russell

Jack Russell of Birmingham-Bloomfield Atlantis has given a verbal commitment to University of Notre Dame to join the class of 2019. “I’m looking forward to swimming for the Irish next fall,” he told SwimSwam.

The Seaholm High School senior is the defending Michigan state D2 high school champion in the 200y IM with 1:52.10. He also picked up a bronze in the 100 breast with 56.32 and was the breaststroke leg on Seaholm’s record-setting 200 medley relay.

Russell dropped three seconds in his 200 IM this past season and has been steadily chipping away at the breast events over the last several years. Most of Notre Dame’s top breaststrokers are seniors this season so this is an area where the Fighting Irish will welcome new blood.

Russell’s top times are:

100y breast: 56.32 100m breast: 1:07.83
200y IM: 1:52.10 200m IM: 2:17.04
200y breast: 2:06.40 200m breast: 2:31.39
50y free: 22.38 50m free: 26.05
100y free: 48.04 100m free: 56.41
