Miami University Announces 2014-2015 Women’s Schedule

The Miami University women’s swim team will open their 2014-2015 competition schedule on October 4th at home in Oxford, Ohio with their annual Red/White intrasquad meet two weeks out of their first real competition.

The Redhawks are following a trend we’ve seen at a lot of programs nationally this season and staying close to home. They begin on the road across the border in West Lafayette, Indiana with a road meet against the Purdue Boilermakers, which is about a three-hour drive to the west.

That meet, which begins at 6:00 on Friday night, will leave them with a quick road trip back home and a fast turnaround back home to race in-state opponents Xavier on Saturday at 2PM.

Every regular-season meet on the Miami schedule this season is located either in the state of Indiana or in the state of Ohio. After Xavier, they welcome in the Ohio State Buckeyes, the best program in the state, and then get a two-week break before facing Butler, again at home, on November 8th.

Then the Redhawks will retire for a full month before the 2014-2015 Miami Invitational, which they’ll host at home from December 4th-6th.

After the holidays, the team starts their second semester on the road against Cincinnati. Miami rolled the Bearcats last season by 58 points at home, as part of a wildly successful regular season. That included a 9-1 dual meet record and a win in their own invitational.

Cincinnati, however, has a new head coach, Mandy Commons-DiSalle, and will be looking for a new result.

Miami then starts a crowded spring schedule that will see them host Buffalo on January 16th, swim on the road against Ball State on January 24th, host Toledo on January 31st, and race rivals Ohio University on the road, in Athens, to close things out on February 7th.

Then it’s a trip north to Ypsilanti, Michigan, where Eastern Michigan will host the MAC Championships; Miami was 2nd at that meet last year, finishing 78 points behind Akron (who the Redhawks continue to miss in their dual meet schedule).

Miami had a few graduations, including diver Nikki Craft who was 2nd on both springboard events at the conference meet last year and the team’s top breaststroker Nicole Wagner and top-finishing 100 backstroker at the conference meet Brianna Fujan.

They return Stephanie Lemire to fill that breaststroke spot as just a sophomore, and have a couple of talented backstrokers back in Katie Bootsma (55.6 – won the B-Final at conference) and Elise Campbell (55.9 – was 10th at conference).

That should leave the Redhawks right back in the thick of the battle for the conference title this coming season.

The team’s full schedule is below.
