Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games Opens Registration for Event Volunteers

Organizers of the 2016 Summer Olympic Games have opened up the registration website for volunteers for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.

The only requirements for volunteers are that they be 18 years old by February 28th, 2016, available for ten days during the Olympic and/or Paralympic Games, and that they’re available to undergo training during the selection process and training sessions.

The roles being filled come in 9 categories:

• Ceremonies production
• Customer Services
• Health services
• Operational services
• Press & communications
• Protocol and languages
• Sports
• Technology
• Transport

In total, 70,000 volunteers will be needed between the Olympic and Paralympic Games.  The benefits offered include free enrollment in an online English course for those who need it, exclusive gifts, a full Olympics uniform, and of course: the feeling of being a part of the 2016 Olympic Games, the biggest spectacle in sports.

Some of the roles will be customer facing, supporting the fans visiting the venues. Some of the volunteer roles will involve supporting those there to work – media, federation officials, etc. Others, specifically in the “SPORTS” category, will involve mostly interaction with athletes and coaches participating in the Olympics – and those roles are reserved for those with some experience or training in specific sports, and include preparing venues for events, caring for horses in the equestrian events, assisting with posting results, and assisting with the weighing in of athletes.
