Austria’s Felix Auboeck, the eighth-place finisher in the men’s 200 free at the 2023 World Championships, “no-showed” the preliminary heats of the event at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. He was originally seeded 18th in the event with an entry time of 1:45.97.
According to Austrian media, Auboeck experienced a headache and sore throat overnight, and his status for the rest of the meet is in question.
Holding a best time of 1:45.11, Auboeck has previously finished as high as fifth in a major international 200 free race, doing so at the 2022 World Championships.
A day prior to the 200 free prelims, Auboeck swam in the men’s 400 free, where he was a contender to make the final but ended up adding over seven seconds from his entry time to finish 24th overall. Later on in the meet, he is set to swim the 800 free.
Other 200 free no-shows include 400 free fifth-place finisher Guilherme Costa of Brazil, as well Hungary’s Nandor Nemeth. Costa and Nemeth were seeded 19th and 20th respectively in the event.
Austrian news reported that he‘s ill, has a fever and other flu-like symptoms, looks like he‘ll be out of the whole competition unfortunately.
Maybe the countries that stay on their own and brought their own food made a smart move.
He went 3.43 in the 400 free at last month’s Euros. Is he unwell?
