- SwimSwam Pick ’em Contest
The 2022 World Championships begin tomorrow morning at 3 am EST, midnight PST. Many of our readers took the time to fill out the Pick ’em contest form and below we have placed the pie chart with the picks for each event and its winner.
Some events were closer than others. For example, Katie Ledecky took home all of the first place picks in both the 800 and 1500 freestyles. This is quite the opposite from events such as the men’s 400 IM where three men have about the same amount of votes for first or the women’s 100 free where two women have around the same votes. Some events do not have the top seed even close to being the top pick such as the men’s 50 fly, women’s 50 back, or women’s 400 IM.

At first glance the standout variable is that the favorites are considerably higher than their betting odds would be
Where can we see the betting odds? I can’t find any.
32.5% picking USA for 200 free relay, more than Aus and Canada. That is probably the biggest surprise.
Clearly a lot of American responders on this. No chance that happens this year.
I am very surprised.
The trust we all have in Ledecky just shows how dominant she is.
Some Interesting picks.
Have you thought about putting the swimmers in % order instead of time order? For most events you can’t really tell outside of the top 2. Or even have both time and pick % next to their name?
A couple of the legends look off: no one picked USA for the men’s 4×200 or Australia for the mixed 4×100 free relays?
No one picking McIntosh in 200 fly is a bit strange too
From my understanding the legend doesn’t list them in order picked but by seed. So when they’re seeded out of the top 8 (or the seed is messed up like the men’s 4×200) they still get a slice of the pie but aren’t listed in the legend (eg. I believe the 41.8% for the 4×200 is the US and the fourth small slice for the women’s 200 fly is probably McIntosh since those colours don’t seem to match any in the legend).
So far, 5 people have picked McIntosh to win the 200 fly, she is the very small small dark red slice that is too small to have a percent
That’s surprising.
The legends have colors very close to each other. Ex: The light purple in the men’s 4×200 is the USA and is not the same dark purple that appears as Hungary in the legend.
I don’t see the US listed for this relay.
Aus and USA aren’t using a QT for mixed free hence why we can’t see their colour
lol at so many people still picking Duncan Scott.
To be fair, the pick em contest started before he withdrew.
Nah, his withdrawal was reported more than a day before the pickem contest was posted.
