2019 Futures Finalist Nicole Gomez Commits to SMU’s Class of 2024

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Nicole Gomez of North Palm Beach Swim Club has committed to swim for SMU beginning in the fall of 2020. About her choice, Gomez said:

Beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at SMU. A special thanks to my family, friends, and coaches for all the love and support along the way. I can’t wait for 4 years as a mustang. PONY UP!! ️”

At the 2017, Florida High School Class 1A Championships, Gomez placed second in the 200 free, earning her personal best time and a 2019 Winter Juniors cut. Later in the meet, she earned another silver medal in the 500 free (4:53.23). Her team took home the bronze medal in the 400 free relay and silver in the 200-medley relay.

Gomez earned a second Winter Juniors cut in the 500 free at the 2018 Florida Gulf Beach High School Championships. Gomez placed third (4:52.42), finishing 7 seconds before the next swimmer.

This summer while competing for her club team, Gomez swam the 400 free at the 2019 Futures Championships in Greensboro. She finished eighth (4:33.32) and went 1.2 seconds faster than she has been the previous weekend at the Florida Gulf Coast Senior Champs.

Top SCY Times:

  • 200 free – 1:48.59
  • 500 free 4:52.42
  • 200 fly – 2:04.53
  • 1650 free – 17:05.63
  • 100 free – 51.72

Gomez’s times would have placed her in the A-final for the 200 and 500 free, and just outside of the finals heat for the 1650. She will be the Mustangs’ fastest 200 freestyler, their second fastest 500 swimmer behind Olivia Graussklaus, and their fastest 1650er as Eliana Yellin graduated in the spring of 2019.

Gomez will be joined by breast and free sprinter Maxine Parkinson for the class of 2024.
