Indiana junior Lilly King lowered her own American and NCAA record Friday night, going 56.25. She won the race by 1.68 seconds.
What did she do immediately after she looked up at the clock? Rolled her eyes. “I was hoping to break :55,” she told the crowd.
King split 26.32/29.93, taking .05 off her previous best of 56.30. She was 56.02 on her 400 medley relay Thursday night — the fastest relay split of all-time.
Michigan’s Miranda Tucker took silver in 57.98 (27.32/30.66), slightly off her best of 57.93. Minnesota’s Lindsey Kozelsky took bronze in 58.18 (27.03/31.15).
She swam her previous best and Friday’s race nearly identically, taking .03 off her first 50 and .02 off her second.
