On the first night of competition in the Women’s Northeast Conference Championships, Bryant stepped out to the early lead with wins in both relays tonight and a new conference record in the 800 free relay.
The Bryant team of Alaina Scifo (25.62), Kayleigh Canavan (28.81), Elin Svard (23.83), Jillian Rice (22.62) combined to post a 1:40.88 to win by 2 seconds. They came in just 3-tenths of a second off the NEC record of 1:40.52, which was set in 2016 by Wagner.
Alaina Scifo and Jillian Rice came back for Bryant to help win the 800 free relay, and set a new conference record in the process. Scifo led off with a 1:49.97, followed by Alyssa Difiore at 1:51.05, Valeria Watson at 1:53.04, and Rice anchored in a 1:48.47. Rice posted the fastest time in the field by about a second. Bryant came in a final time of 7:22.53 to break the conference record and go 5 seconds faster than they went to win the event last year.
