2018 NEC Championship Day 1: Bryant Breaks 800 Free Relay Record

On the first night of competition in the Women’s Northeast Conference Championships, Bryant stepped out to the early lead with wins in both relays tonight and a new conference record in the 800 free relay.

The Bryant team of Alaina Scifo (25.62), Kayleigh Canavan (28.81), Elin Svard (23.83), Jillian Rice (22.62) combined to post a 1:40.88 to win by 2 seconds. They came in just 3-tenths of a second off the NEC record of 1:40.52, which was set in 2016 by Wagner.

Alaina Scifo and Jillian Rice came back for Bryant to help win the 800 free relay, and set a new conference record in the process. Scifo led off with a 1:49.97, followed by Alyssa Difiore at 1:51.05, Valeria Watson at 1:53.04, and Rice anchored in a 1:48.47. Rice posted the fastest time in the field by about a second. Bryant came in a final time of 7:22.53 to break the conference record and go 5 seconds faster than they went to win the event last year.
