2018 MPSF Championships Day 3 Recap: Weidner Breaks Conference Record

Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) – Men and Women

On the 3rd day of the MPSF Cahmpionships, Hawaii extended it’s lead in the women’s team standings, while UCSB and Hawaii finished the night very close to each other in the men’s scoring. Hawaii’s Franziska Weidner broke the MPSF record in the 200 free.

Weidner took the 200 free in a great time of 1:44.73, winning the event by 3 seconds over teammate Silvija Djelic. Weidner split the race very well, posting 50 times of 24.45/26.40/27.05/26.83. That time gives Weidner a good chance of being invited to the NCAAs.

Kenna Ramey won the women’s 100 fly in a best time of 52.00, coming in just .08 seconds off the MPSF record. She posted splits of 24.43 and 27.57, outsplitting the rest if the field in both 50s. That time will safely get Ramey an invite to the NCAAs.

Hawaii broke the MPSF record in the women’s 400 medley relay. The team of Franziska Weidner (53.34), Kionna Clayton (1:01.66), Lucia Lassman (53.08), and Bryndis Hansen (48.80) combined to post a 3:36.88, breaking both the conference record and school record.

Mateusz Chaba took the men’s 100 fly in an incredibly tight race with Youssef Tibazi, touching in 46.46 to Tibazi’s 46.;9. Chaba rode a very fast first 50 split of 21.27 to outlast Tibazi, getting his hands on the wall first. Those times may be fast enough for both swimmers to earn invites to the NCAAs.
