The Americans continued to dominate on Day 1 of the 2018 Junior Pan Pacific Championships in Suva, Fiji, winning all but one gold medal. Canada picked up their first gold with a victory in the men’s 100 breast. While Japan has yet to win a gold, its swimmers have made more podium appearances than any nation other than USA. At the 2014 Junior Pan Pacs, USA had led after two days of competition with 25 medals of which 14 were gold, 6 silver, and 5 bronze. Japan was in second place with a total of 9 medals, including 1 gold, 3 silver, and 5 bronze. That differential of 4 medals can be attributed to Australia and Canada, who each have 2 fewer medals than they had last time around at the end of Day 2.
