The majority of entrants for day 2 prelims of the 2018 Commonwealth Games remain intact, save for the men’ 400m IM event. England’s Jarvis Parkinson and Scotland’s Dan Wallace no longer appear on the official website’s list of swimmers in the race, leaving England with only Joe Litchfield and Scotland with Mark Szaranek.
Wallace’s absence is exceptionally notable, as the Scot is the defending gold medalist in the event. At the 2014 Commonwealth Games, Wallace stood atop the 400m IM podium with a solid time of 4:11.20, topping Australian Thomas Fraser-Holmes and South Africa’s Sebastien Rousseau.
Wallace, a former Florida Gator, recently moved to train in Edinburgh after stints in Warrender and Stirling. Last year the 24-year-old pleaded guilty to a driving under the influence charge that rendered Wallace suspended from all Scottish national team programs until September 12th.
Look for Wallace to still compete in the 200m IM event later in the competition.
CG flashback to 2014. “Barely two months after being detained for urinating on a police car early one morning in Gainesville, the 21-year-old Wallace captured his first international title on Friday.” The recent DUI comes as no surprise. Hope he gets help.
