2017 European Junior Championships To Take Place in Netanya, Israel

The best 18 & Under swimmers from throughout Europe will meet in Israel this summer to compete at the LEN 2017 European Junior Swimming Championships, which will take place between June 28th and July 2nd.  Hosted by Wingate University in the city of Netanya, the Israeli Swimming Association is excited to host another high-level competition for Europe’s most talented young swimmers after the successful 2015 European Championships (25m).

While an official schedule of events is yet to be released, the five-day schedule of the meet will most likely mirror last year’s Junior Championship which included heats, semifinals, and finals of all 50, 100, and 200 meter individual events; heats and finals of the 400 free and 400 IM, as well as the 4 x 100 meter free and medley relays and the 4 x 200 meter free relay; and timed finals only for the 800 and 1500 freestyles.

Noam Zwi, Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the competition, voiced his enthusiasm for the new pool at Wingate University, which he described as “modern” and “fast,” attributes that he believes will help to foster an exciting environment in which every swimmer will be able to reach their goals.  Zwi also praised the team of over 400 volunteers for their tireless work to make the 2017 Junior Championships “one of the most spectacular championships ever.”

The timing of the meet is also convenient as it serve as a final opportunity for Europe’s most elite youth to tune-up before the Junior World Championships in Indianapolis, IN.  Junior Worlds will take place from August 23-28 at the famous IUPUI natatorium, which has not hosted a major international swim meet since the 2004 FINA World Championships (25m) in the fall after the Athens Olympic Games.
