Men’s S1 100 Backstroke

Ukraine’s Hennadii Boiko claimed the gold medal with his winning time of 2:08.01, blowing away the competition by more than 19 seconds and breaking the world and European records. The silver medal went to Italian Francesco Bettella who swam a 2:27.06. Bettella just out touched Boiki’s fellow countryman Anton Kol who took bronze in 2:27.45.

 

Men’s S2 100 Backstroke

China claimed gold and silver in this event with Liankang Zou touching first in a time of 1:45.25 breaking the world, Paralympic and Asian records. Zou’s teammate Benying Liu swam a 1:48.29 to take silver. Serhi Palamarchuk took bronze with his time of 1:49.76.

 

Women’s S2 100 Backstroke

Singapore claimed their first gold medal of the swimming competition with Pin Xiu yip winning the event in 2:07.09, well ahead of the rest of the field and breaking the world and Asian records. Yazhu Feng of China took silver with her time of 2:18.65. Ukraine’s Iryna Sotska’s nabs the bronze with her time of 2:21.98.

 

Men’s S7 50 Freestyle

China’s Shiyun Pan won gold in 27.35, out touching Ukraine’s Ievgenii Bogdaiko who claimed silver with a 27.64. Carlos Serrano Zarate took bronze with a 28.60. Pan broke the world, Paralympic and Asian records with his swim.

 

Women’s S7 50 Freestyle

McKenzie Coan of the United States claimed gold in Paralympic record fashion with her time of 32.42. Denise Grahl of Germany took silver, out touching Great Britain’s Susannah Rodger’s bronze medal time of 33.16. American,Cortney Jordan, was just off the podium in 4th.

 

Men’s S6 50 Butterfly

Chinas took the sweep in this event winning gold, silver and bronze. Qing Xu won in 29.89 breaking the world, Paralympic and Asian records, and just ahead of Tao Zheng’s 29.93. Lichao Wang took bronze in 30.95.

 

Women’s S6 50 Butterfly

Ellie Robinson of Great Britain took gold with a time of 35.58, breaking the Paralympic record. Ukraine’s Oksana Khrul took silver in a 36.45 and Australian youngster Tiffany Thomas Kane, claimed the bronze medal after her time of 36.81 at the age of 15.

 

Men’s S10 50 Freestyle

In one of the moist highly anticipated races of the Games, it was Ukraine’s Maksym Krypak who pulled the upset and took gold in a 23.33, breaking the European Record. Brazil’s own Phelipe Rodrigues took silver in 23.56 and Krypak’s country mate Denys Dubrov took the bronze with his time of 23.75 Brazilian hometown favorite, Andre Brasil, the 2008 and 2012 Paralympic Champion in this event, failed to medal.

 

Women’s S10 50 Freestyle

Canada’s Aurelie Rivard took gold over New Zealand rival Sophie Pascoe. Rivard’s 27.37 and Pascoe’s 27.72 provided the only times under 28-seconds in the final. Rivard broke the world, Paralympic, and Americas records. China’s Yi Chen took bronze with her time of 28.21.

 

Men’s S11 100 Backstroke

Ukraine’s Dmytro Zalevskyi won the event comfortably with his time of 1:06.66, breaking the world, Paralympic, and European records. Poland’s Wojciech Makowski and United States Brad Snyder TIED for the silver medal, both going 1:08.28 to split the medal. Snyder’s time breaks the American Record that has stood since 1992.  No bronze medal was awarded since there was a tie for silver.

 

Women’s S11 100 Backstroke

New Zealand’s Mary Fisher struck gold, breaking the world, Paralympic and Oceanic record. China’s Liwen Cai took silver with her time of 1:20.29. Sweden’s Maja Reichard took bronze with her time of 1:21.46.

 

Men’s S8 100 Butterfly

China swept the podium for the second time tonight. Maodang Song took first with a blistering time of 59.19. That broke the world, Paralympic and Asian records and Song also becomes the first S8 man ever under a minute. His teammate Haijo Xu was close to dipping under the barrier. His swift 1:00.08 was good enough for silver, and also was under the old world record. Guanglong Yang rounded out the Chinese sweep.

 

Women’s S8 100 Butterfly

Ukraine’s Kateryna Istomina upset the United States two time Paralympic champion in this event, Jessica Long, and Great Britain’s world record holder and 2015 world champion, Stephanie Slater. Istomina time of 1:09.04 broke the Paralympic record. Stephanie Slater collected the silver with her time of 1:10.32 and Jessica Long finished with the bronze with her 1:10.53 finals swim.

 

Mixed 4×50 Freestyle 20-point relay

China took the top spot, claiming gold in a world record time of 2:18.03. No member of China’s relay tonight swam in the prelim session. To the delight of the crowd Brazil took the silver in an Americas record time of 2:25.45. Ukraine nabbed the bronze with their time of 2:30.66

Congrats on the GOLD Mckenzie Coan!! and even a new Paralympic record twice in one day!!!!!! Hard work really pays off. Looking forward to what the future holds, Good luck !!

And Krypak and Dubrov win the Gold and Bronze medals….no surprise since they’re both able bodied! Absolute scandal! Rodriguez robbed of Paralympic glory in his own country. A disgrace! >:(
