The Stanford women bookended day 1 finals of the 2016 Ohio State Invitational with relay wins. The team of Lia Neal, Simone Manuel, Janet Hu, and Ally Howe combined for a winning time of 1:27.72 in the 200 free relay, with Manuel splitting a 21.48 on the 2nd leg. In the 400 medley relay, the Cardinal was dominant again, rolling to a 3:29.63 victory on the strength of Howe (51.45), Kim Williams (1:00.69), Hu (50.22), and Manuel (47.27).
The Cardinal’s Katie Ledecky was on fire again tonight, lowering the NCAA Record she set in prelims of the women’s 500 free. Tonight, she clocked a 4:26.42 to clear the former NCAA and American Record marks. With that time, she finished 14 seconds ahead of any other swimmer in the final.
Ella Eastin, a Stanford sophomore, raced to victory in the 200 IM, clocking a 1:54.06 to outpace Kentucky Freshman Asia Seidt, who finished 2nd in 1:55.33. The Cardinal almost had a sweep of the women’s races tonight, but Ohio State’s Zhesi Li pulled the stop in the 50 free, clocking a speedy 21.70 to win the race. Also under 22 in that event was Stanford’s Simone Manuel, who took 2nd in 21.82.
In the men’s 50, Penn State’s Shane Ryan was the fastest man in the pool. Ryan wasn’t quite as fast as he was in prelims, but his 19.77 was still good for a victory over Ohio State’s Mossimo Chaves (19.95). Taking 3rd in that race was Big Ten champ Matt McHugh, an Ohio State senior, in 20.03.
The Ohio State men closed the session with a relay win for the home crowd. McHugh got things started with a 46.42 backstroke split, followed by teammates Michael Eaton (54.84), Michael Salazar (45.89), and Josh Fleagle (42.91). Their overall winning time was a 3:10.06.
Additional Event Winners:
- Men’s 200 free relay- Ohio State (Fleagle, Chavez, Appleby, McHugh), 1:18.84
- Men’s 500 free- Kyle Higgins, Kentucky, 4:20.25
- Men’s 200 IM- Ching Lim, Ohio State, 1:46.41
I don’t see them winning any medley relays with their breastroke leg, crazy weak compared to their depth
Heidi Poppe is injured? Out of shape? Stanford has on paper a better breaststroker for its medley relay.
She regressed to 1:02 last year. Not sure what the issue was. She hasn’t broken a minute since her freshman year.

Yeah, I was looking for the same thing. Also Live Results didn’t have 50 Free Results.
My Liveresults link isn’t showing splits. Does anyone have a source or .pdf results anywhere that show the full results, including relay splits?
