2015 Speedo Winter Junior Nationals: Day 2 Composite Top 10

With USA Swimming splitting its Winter Junior National meets for the first time in history, we here at SwimSwam are combining them right back again. For interested fans, we’ll be compiling a composite top 10 with the fastest 10 swims in each event from the combined results of both meets, along with some analysis of each night’s results.

Note: we’ll be compiling the rest of our lists based solely on A finals times from both meets.

2015 SPEEDO WINTER JUNIOR NATIONALS – NIGHT 2

The trend from night 1’s composite championships continued on Thursday, with the West meet coming up with faster winning swims in most events but the East meet showing greater depth through the top 10 combined finishers.

The West won 6 of 8 composite Junior National titles, including a pair from Ozaukee’s Katie Drabot. Drabot does provide a bit of a look into the problem with combining meet results, though – the Wisconsin high schooler swam (and won) all three individual races at the West meet, and came close to winning all three composite national titles. She ended up behind two swimmers in the East in the 500 free, but it’s hard to say if she would have found a little more speed if Hannah Cox and Lauren Case were out in front of her late.

Cox was the lone indivual East winner to better the West’s top time, going an impressive 4:37.82 in the 500 free. Lakeside Swim Team also managed the best overall time in the 4×100 medley relay in an event the East stacked with 7 of 10 top finishers.

The boys of Palo Alto followed up their 4×50 medley relay win from night 1 with an overall win in the 4×100 medley, as the boys of the West meet are still undefeated in the relay races.

The West meet continues to reap big swims from its group of stars: Sean Grieshop, Michael Andrew and Ryan Hoffer each won individual races to join Drabot, and Andrew twice broke the 15-16 National Age Group record in the 200 IM.

The East also had a NAG record fall in one event: the 200 IM, where 14-year-old Alex Walsh was second overall and broke the 13-14 NAG mark.
