Serbian swimmers got a final tune-up meet in this weekend, as the nation’s best gathered in Beograd to compete at the long course nationals. For some, the meet signals swimmers’ final preparation before heading out to the 2015 FINA World Championships.
Jovana Bogdanovic earned multiple wins in the breaststroke discipline, clinching gold in the women’s 100m distance in a time of 1:12.39 and gold in the 200m distance in 2:32.66. Butterflier Anja Crevar also got the job done in two races, topping the field in the 100m fly event in 1:04.00 and the 200 fly race in 2:17.43. Both women will be representing Serbia at Worlds.
The women also saw Jelena Jecanski climb on top of the podium several times this weekend, in quite a display of stroke and distance range at that. Jecanski earned golds in the 50m and 100m backstrokes, clocking times of 30.88 and 1:05.97, respectively. Then she went on to sweep the IM events, touching in 2:23.63 for 200 IM gold and 5:09.06 for the 400 IM win.
The men saw two dominators show up in full force in the form of Velimir Stjepanovic and Arkady Vyatchanin. Stjepanovic came out on top in the men’s 100m freestyle (51.09), 200m freestyle (1:50.68) and 400m freestyle (3:55.36) events, no doubt dialing in to fine-tune his racing before heading to Kazan as part of the Serbian Worlds squad.
Vyatchanin, whose federation change to Serbia is too new for him to represent the country in Kazan, nailed down backstroke wins the 100m distance (56.07) and 200m distance (2:01.67). Vyatchanin’s primary taper meet this summer will be the U.S. Nationals taking place in San Antonio.
