They didn’t win a swimming event tonight but the Stanford Cardinal still lead the Pac-12 team points thanks to a team effort and a 1-2 of the 3-meter diving event.
Kristian Ipsen won that event, and Stanford also got a huge 51.7 breaststroke split on their medley relay from Dave Nolan, who has been everywhere this week.
Stanford currently holds a 33-point lead over USC who have been swimming outstanding so far. The Trojans upset defending NCAA champs Cal for the 400 medley relay title tonight, and saw freshman Ralf Tribuntsov nearly steal the 100 back title from Cal’s star Ryan Murphy.
Meanwhile Cal sits third, but did close the gap a bit on Stanford from 117 last night to 76.5 tonight. That was courtesy of wins by Josh Prenot (400 IM), Seth Stubblefield (100 fly) and Ryan Murphy (100 back).
