2015 Australian SC Championships Day Four Prelims Recap

2015 Hancock Prospecting Australian Short Course Swimming Championships

On the final day of racing in Sydney five athletes recorded times that place in the top three in the world rankings during the prelims. Emma McKeon was the top qualifier in the women’s 200 freestyle posting a time of 1:52.49 almost three second ahead of the rest of the field. McKeon’s time places her atop of the world rankings unseating Femke Heemskerk of the Netherlands who posted a 1:52.53 earlier this month.

McKeon’s also broke Libby Lenton‘s all-comers record of 1:53.29.

Thomas Fraser-Holmes qualified for the men’s 400 IM final in a time of 4:04.96. Fraser-Holmes, who owns the Australian record with a 3:58.69, was just off Matthew Dunn‘s all-comers record of 4:04.24. His time also puts him second in the world rankings.

In the first event of the morning Kenneth To posted a time of 52.59 in the men’s 100 IM which places him second in the world rankings.

This evening’s men’s 100 butterfly looks like it could be a tremendous race between Tommaso D’Orsogna, Christopher Wright and last year’s champion David Morgan. D’Orsogna recorded a time of 50.70, which ranks third in the world. Wright finished in a time of 50.88 followed by Morgan who posted a 50.89.

Cameron McEvoy, who has walked away with victories in the 100 and 200 freestyle, was the top qualifier in the men’s 50 freestyle finishing in a time of 21.09. McEvoy’s time puts him third in the world rankings and is not far off Matthew Abood‘s Australian record of 20.89.

Emily Seebohm posted a 26.68 in the women’s 50 backstroke while Mitch Larkin recorded a 51.13 in the 100 backstroke.
