2015 AEC Championships Day 1: UNH With Narrow Lead Over Binghamton and UMBC

America East Conference – Women

University of New Hampshire jumped out to the early lead with a win in the 800 free relay. Elizaveta Baykova (1:48.93), Jessica Harper (1:49.76), Katie Mann (1:50.36), and Oneida Cooper (1:51.27) combined for 7:20.32, breaking the WPI pool record the Wildcats had set at last year’s AEC meet. UMBC (7:28.94) and Vermont (7:31.94) placed second and third.

The Binghamton University Bearcats took first place in the next two events. Senior Imani Williams, back from a year off, placed first in 1-meter diving with a final score of 262.55. Teammate Kim Robertson (246.75 points) was runner-up, while defending champion Coco Darelius of UMBC came in third with a tally of 243.85. Maggie Preston (230.40) from Vermont, UMBC’s Emily Fay (211.25), and New Hampshire’s Nikki Zahka (204.80), Savanna Desmarais (201.05), and Hailee Miller (191.35) rounded out the podium.

The final event was the 200 medley relay, and the Binghamton Bearcats pulled off a thrilling come-from-behind victory to end Day One on a high note. Claudia Coccaro (27.01), Corinne Zotter (27.79), Selina Ng (25.08), and Caitlin Kelly (22.39) clocked a winning 1:42.27 from lane 6, ahead of UMBC (1:42.49), New Hampshire (1:42.60), Vermont (1:42.97, and University of Maine (1:43.95).

The team rankings through the first three events are:

  1. University of New Hampshire: 72
  2. Binghamton University: 70
  3. UMBC: 68
  4. University of Vermont: 62
  5. University of Maine: 56

Day Two of the America East Swimming & Diving Championship begins tomorrow at 10:00 AM.

Actually Binghamton is in first after day 1. They forgot to put in diving points!
