Day 1 of the 2014 NCAA Championships are in the books, and the Texas men, thanks to a big 34-point performance from their divers, have an early lead by 1 point over Cal. Both teams have made huge improvements over their seeds (those numbers include diving), as expected. They’ve both done their day 1 jobs to make up on the leaders, Florida and Michigan, who were both right at expectations. This meet is lining up for exactly the kind of to-the-wire team battle we’ve been expecting.
After Texas and Cal, there haven’t been many huge upward movements. Louisville did a nice job by winning both relay B-Finals to go plus 23 points, and Stanford went +29. Other than that, it’s been a lot of solid increases, and a lot of big drops.
Florida’s day 2 isn’t expected to be as good relative to their first day, but in absolute terms they’ll still be right in the thick of this battle. the meet should stay very close after two days.

Do the seeded points include diving? Because if not then don’t think the actual points should. Just obscures the goings on in the swim meet.
kinda silly to not account for diving in the ‘seeded points’ and then use the totals (including diving) to say they exceeded their seeded points by X amount

Arizona is off of their seed only because of the relay DQ. Cordes got under 50 seconds for his breast role leg by exactly .05—the same amount he jumped the start by–kind of ironic.
Michigan will be back after tomorrow’s events… it will be a four team race ON Saturday. Prelims will keep being faster than finals (overall) … you gotta get those lanes at night. But there will be some big numbers thrown down tomorrow night. Can’t wait…
